Description
In the Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Prework course, learners will enhance their skills in the treatment of pediatric arrest and periarrest patients through active participation in a series of simulated pediatric emergencies. These simulations are designed to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, and effective resuscitation team dynamics.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

1. Perform high quality CPR per AHA BLS recommendations
2. Perform role as a high-performance team member
3. Differentiate between the patient requiring immediate intervention from those that don’t
4. Differentiate between respiratory distress and failure
5. Perform early interventions for respiratory distress and failure
6. Differentiate between compensated and hypotensive shock
7. Perform early interventions for the treatment of shock
8. Differentiate between unstable and stable patients with dysrhythmias
9. Demonstrate treatment of dysrhythmias
10. Implement Post arrest management

The American Heart Association does not provide advice to Training Centers on ADA requirements or any other laws, rules or regulations. Training Centers must determine accommodations necessary to comply with applicable laws. AHA recommends consultation with legal counsel.
Core curriculum change requests for accessibility purposes must be scientifically based and approved in advance in writing by the AHA ECC Science & Product Development department; otherwise a student must be able to successfully perform all course requirements (skills and written tests as indicated) to receive a course completion card. Reasonable accommodations may be made, such as placing the manikin on a table at the height necessary for wheelchair- bound individuals. However, the skills must be satisfactorily completed during the testing sessions.
