Description
The 2020 AHA Guidelines Science In-Service is an online course designed to provide healthcare providers information on new science and key changes published in the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. This interactive, self-paced, multidisciplinary course offers a full overview of resuscitation science changes impacting basic, advanced, and pediatric life support. The course highlights science and guidelines recommendations that are most significant or those that will result in changes in resuscitation practice and protocols. It also provides rationale for the recommendations.

This course allows healthcare institutions and professionals the ability to adjust practices between the release of the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC and their next AHA renewal/update course.

2. Describe the rationale for the 2020 science updates

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by The American Heart Association. The American Heart Association is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

AMA Credit Designation Statement - Physicians
The American Heart Association designates this activity for a maximum of 0.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

AAPA Credit Acceptance Statement – Physician Assistants

Core curriculum change requests for accessibility purposes must be scientifically based and approved in advance in writing by the AHA ECC Science & Product Development department; otherwise a student must be able to successfully perform all course requirements (skills and written tests as indicated) to receive a course completion card. Reasonable accommodations may be made, such as placing the manikin on a table at the height necessary for wheelchair- bound individuals. However, the skills must be satisfactorily completed during the testing sessions.
